MDS with isolated del(5q)

Isolated del(5q) typically present with macrocytic anemia, normal granulopoiesis and neutrophil count, and normal or increased platelets. Bone marrow is only hypercellular in about 40% of the cases, 40% is normocellular and 20% is hypocellular. Dysplasia is not common in the erythroid or myeloid lineage, megakaryocytes are typically increased in number and prominently mononuclear and smaller in comparison to normal megakaryocytes (30-40 μm).
