Osteoclasts / Osteoblasts

Osteoblasts are required for bone formation. Cells have a eccentric round nucleus, coarse reticular chromatin and blue-grey granular cytoplasm. Nucleus appears to extrude. They can be found in clusters or individually.

Osteoclasts are responsible for bone resorption. Cells are large, multinucleated, well-separated and uniformly sized round to ovoid nuclei.
