Pure red cell aplasia

Pure Red Cell Aplasia (PRCA) often has a severe normochromic, normocytic anemia. Bone marrow aspirate is normocellular, with selective reduction or absence of erythroid precursors.
The acquired forms of pure red cell aplasia can be caused by viruses (Parvo B19, AIDS), drugs (Azathioprine, cephalothin, chloramphenicol, dapsone, diphenylhydantoin, isoniazid, procainamide -not all-inclusive listing-), T-cell mediated (thymoma, T-cell large granular lymphocyte leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia) or some autoimmune disorders.
