Hypersegmentation

Hypersegmentation excists when >5% of all neutrophils have 5 lobes or if any neutrophils have six or more lobes.
This can be present in folate and vitamin B12 deficiency, myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative disorders, but can also been found in patients receiving chemotherapy, or in long-term chronic infections.. When enlarged, neutrophils with increased segmentation are called macropolycytes.
